Allen Newton - The Lee & David Show
Monday - Friday 6a - 9a
![]() Allen was born when he was very young. From an early age, he knew he was bound for the broadcasting industry. An example of this was when Santa brought him a small reel-to-reel tape recorder and the first use was to record bathroom sounds and play them back for his brother’s girlfriend. Allen and his brother have never been close. This illustrious career began in the early 70’s while serving in the Army in the Republic of Panama. When Led Zeplin’s “Lemon Song” found it’s way into a gospel segment, Allen’s popularity with the military community grew many fold. Allen tried a number of other names along the way, like “Tony Day”,…the “Weird Beard”,..”Ace Music”,…and “My Mama’s Son”. None of them really stuck, until he stamped the “Big Al” label upon his forehead. The “Big Al” name ended-up at stations like KJIM in Fort Worth, KCHU in Dallas, and other Texas stations (KCTX Childress, KOLJ Quanah, KCLE Cleburne, and KPIR Granbury). “Big Al” spent time in cable television, where he was a news anchor, sales manager, cameraman, and video jock. Saturday nights in Oklahoma, during the auto racing season, he sat atop the concession stand at a cement oval and was the “Voice of the Altus Speedway Races”. 2007 saw his return to KPIR, where is has done nothing with pride. Also, Allen brings his wit to the afternoon drive program entitled “PM PLUS”, cuts a few commercials, sales a package, or two, helps with remotes, and in general,..irritaes the heck out of people. When asked what his plans are for the future, his common sense response was, “Drooling and sullying myself”. |
